Are Your Goals Clear and Trackable?

At Pivot Business Group, we love creating tangible goals so that these things that often seem hard to measure, can have meaningful and measurable numbers associated with them. If everyone is on the same page, the faster you can get to your fearless goal!

What can that look like on a quarterly level? Creating goals and assigning them with clear milestones and dates becomes an imperative. If you keep doing what you always do, nothing will change. Accountability and clearly defined goals is what grows a business with intention. So make it quantifiable!

Examples can be:
✔️ Hire 1 marketing intern
✔️ Bring on 2 new sales people
✔️ Have 5 inside sales people trained on outside sales
✔️ Send 3 proposals a week
✔️Update accounting software that interacts with Payroll and Bookkeeping

We recommend that each department have their own goals that tie directly to the company goals.

For example:

If the goal is to increase the profit margin by 8%, then the sales department can have a goal of increasing their close rate by 5%, and the finance department can have a goal to shorten collection time to 7 days.

To ensure everyone stays on track with their goals they need to be:

  • Measurable

  • Tracked in a central location

  • People are assigned to goals

  • People are held accountable

If you have a dashboard, chart, stoplight report, or similar you can do all the items above.

The dashboard needs to be somewhere that everyone can see it. The goals also need to be discussed in your weekly meetings and each person reports their progress on their goal.

Our CFO’s help our clients define their goals and create dashboard to ensure they are tracked. If you are looking for help defining your goals, our team would love to help.
